Same day dental crowns and veneers at your local Bedford dentist.
At The Dental Centre Bedford, we are aware that, for many of our patients, time is something which is in short supply.
Taking time off work to visit the dentist can be challenging, albeit very necessary, so we like to do everything that we can to help patients minimise the number of visits to us.
With this in mind, please allow us to introduce you to the CEREC technology we have available at our Bedford practice. CEREC stands for ‘Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics’, or CEramic REConstruction and offers patients the opportunity to have restorations such as dental crowns or veneers produced whilst they wait.
For most practices that offer crowns and veneers, this involves taking potentially uncomfortable impressions of the teeth which are then sent to a dental laboratory in order for the crowns or veneers to be produced. This can take up to two weeks and requires a second visit to have any temporary restorations removed and the new ones finally attached.
By using CEREC, we make this process more comfortable and convenient. The need for impressions is replaced with a digital 3D scan which causes no discomfort. This information is then fed into a milling machine which produces your own individual crown or veneer from a single block of porcelain. This process usually takes in the region of one hour, during which you can relax and read or listen to music perhaps. Finally, once the restoration has been prepared, you will be called back and the crown or veneer fitted in just the one single visit.
If your curiosity about this process has been aroused, there is a video, lasting approximately 1.5 minutes, of our CEREC process here.
Although the time factor is the most obvious benefit for most people, it is not the only one. Other advantages of CEREC include:
1. No need for a potentially uncomfortable manual impressions of your teeth. Instead a 3D camera scans your teeth in a much shorter period of time
2. No need for fitting of temporary veneers or crowns.
3. Reports are increasingly suggesting that CEREC manufactured crowns are stronger and longer lasting than those produced in dental laboratories.
As well as dental crowns and veneers; the same process can be performed to create an inlay or onlay where a large filling is needed, or to replace an unsightly amalgam filling, allowing you to have a more confident smile without revealing darker rear teeth.
