Worried About Your Ageing Smile?

Advanced years can take their toll on our teeth, but our Bedford cosmetic dentists are here to help.
The time comes to all of us when we have to accept that our younger years are behind us. This can happen at different ages for each individual and may depend on a number of factors including lifestyle and family and work responsibilities. While there is still much to look forward to in our middle years and beyond, there is no getting away from the fact that we gradually start to look less youthful than we once used to. That doesn’t only mean that our skin is showing the tell tale signs of lines and wrinkles, but our teeth no longer look as white as they used to do as well, no matter how well we brush our teeth.
In the past, these changes would be permanent and were just accepted as something that couldn’t be changed. The good news for our patients is that this is no longer the case. In today’s blog, we will take a look at some of the treatments we can offer to help bring back some of that youthful appearance.
Lines and wrinkles
Before we move on to ageing teeth, we would like to remind patients of our Bedford dental practice that we also offer a range of facial aesthetic treatments that can help to rejuvenate your skin. Lines and wrinkles and sagging cheeks and thinning lips can be rejuvenated using our anti wrinkle treatments and dermal fillers. We have an experienced team here who will help you receive the appropriate treatment in a safe and responsible manner. If this interests you, why not give them a call today at the number at the end of the blog? It’s also a great way to complement a new smile makeover!
Yellowing teeth
As we become older; in addition to any surface staining that might have occurred to our teeth caused by the food and drinks we consume, they can also start to become yellow and discoloured due to the inner dentin part of the tooth becoming darker in colour and showing through the translucent enamel, making the teeth appear discoloured. This is no way a reflection on your oral health regimen but simply something that happens to us all as we grow older.
This discolouration can be reversed either with our popular teeth whitening procedure or through the use of porcelain dental veneers. The latter are especially useful for those who have badly stained teeth or small flaws in their teeth such as chips or cracks that can be seen when you smile.
We will need to assess you before the best course of treatment is decided on in consultation with you. Whichever treatment is used, we are sure that you will be very happy with the results.
Orthodontics
No doubt, some of you reading this blog will only be aware of dental braces as being those unsightly and very visible wires and brackets braces from days gone by. Because of this, you may have decided that any crooked teeth you have will just ‘have to do’ as you didn’t want to wear those old style ‘train track’ braces. If this is the case and you would like to have straighter teeth, you might wish to revisit your decision. Orthodontics are now available which are much more discreet and which are barely visible when being worn. In addition to this, those such as Invisalign orthodontics, can be removed for eating meals and for cleaning your teeth, making them not only almost invisible but also very convenient too!
Dental implants
The older you are, the more likely it is that you have lost a tooth or two. You might still have the gap, especially if it is fairly well hidden, or you might be wearing dentures and feel that there must be a better solution? This is particularly so if yours are prone to moving around, making eating and sometimes speaking, difficult. If this sounds like you, why not come and talk to us about our popular dental implants. These do require a minor surgical procedure but the results are long lasting, sometimes lasting twenty years or even more.
In addition to their longevity, dental implants also provide a high degree of strength and stability, making eating and speaking a pleasure once more.
Just think of the change from being someone whose teeth are discoloured and crooked, with possibly a few teeth missing, to someone who has attractive white and even teeth with no gaps at all. In order to change things though, you need to take the initial steps and arrange a consultation with us. We can then discuss the various options open to you and decide on a treatment plan together – our approach is very friendly and fully consulative.
