Is A Healthy Diet Enough To Keep Your Skin Young Looking?
Tackling the effects of ageing on our skin in Bedford
It can be difficult to determine what actually constitutes a healthy diet. Older people would probably argue that the ‘meat and two veg’ approach worked for them, and, although the vegetables may have been overcooked, there was very little processed food available which contained additives and the high sugar levels that we often see now!
Younger people may be be inclined to avoid this approach though, and opt for a more selective diet such as veganism or gluten free etc. Whichever is the healthier though, is this enough to keep your skin young looking?
A balanced diet
A balanced diet which includes a lot of fruit and veg is generally believed to be beneficial for the skin. These contain many vitamins and minerals which help to maintain elasticity along with high water content which helps in ‘flushing’ away toxins and keeping the skin supple. Avoiding alcohol and cigarettes too is hugely beneficial. A quick glance at the skin of a regular smoker will soon tell you why! In addition to that of course, are the significant adverse effects of smoking on your teeth and gums.
With a little help
However healthy we try to stay, eventually lines and wrinkles will start to appear on our face. Whilst these may be delayed a while by eating a healthier diet, come they surely will. Some creams may help a little with this but probably only delay the inevitable. When your wrinkles do arrive and you want to do something about it, the facial aesthetics team at The Dental Centre Bedford are here to help.
Botox and dermal fillers
Facial aesthetics treatments consist of a small amount of Botox or dermal fillers being injected just beneath the skin in the areas where they are needed. This procedure uses a fine needle that should cause no significant discomfort and no local anaesthetic is necessary. Botox is most widely used for correcting problems such as fine lines and wrinkles that appear on the face and it may also be used for excessive sweating in certain circumstances. Dermal fillers are most often used to plump up areas of the face that thin or sag over time, for example the cheeks and lips.
Our facial aesthetics team are highly trained and experienced and you should have no concerns about any ‘extreme’ results that you may have seen on TV. During your consultation we will be pleased to discuss our treatments, along with your aims and any concerns you might have.
