Five Steps To Smoother Skin
Helping our Bedford patients with the latest facial aesthetics treatments.
As we become older, our skin will start to develop lines and wrinkles, often spoiling an otherwise healthy complexion. For years, there was very little that could be done about this.
With modern research though, and the facial aesthetic treatments that we have available at The Dental Centre Bedford, smoother skin in older age need no longer simply be a thing of our dreams.
In today’s blog, we take a look at some of the things that you can do to delay the onset of lines and wrinkles, along with treatment options such as Botox, for when they finally do arrive.
Healthy living
Our lifestyle choices can determine when lines and wrinkles first start to appear on our face. A healthy diet, high in fruits and vegetables means that your complexion is likely to remain looking good for longer than if you choose a high fat and sugar diet. Smoking should be a ‘no no’, both for health reasons and the fact that it will speed up the ageing process of your skin.
Hydration
Drinking water will help to keep your skin looking healthy. It can also flush away toxins that can affect the skin surface. Whilst drinking water alone won’t necessarily give you great looking skin, it is a simple thing that can be done and which will certainly help.
Skin creams
Can skin creams help to reduce wrinkles? Well, they can certainly offer some protection from the elements, and, especially if your skin is exposed a lot, such as if you work outdoors, they are important. They can also help to keep the skin more elastic too. They will not work forever though, and wrinkles are certain to appear eventually.
Botox
When the lines and wrinkles finally appear on your face, there is only one way in which these can be reduced, and that is through the use of a muscle relaxant such as the popular Botox treatment. This is a safe and effective procedure that involves injecting the Botox just under the surface of the skin where the ‘problem’ lies. This is not a painful treatment and the Botox will gradually relax the muscles that cause the lines, leaving you with a smoother skin in approximately one to two weeks. The effects can last for a number of months and the treatment can be repeated safely.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are applied in the same way as Botox. They are used to replace the natural collagen in our skin which is reduced as we become older. This treatment is especially popular in the reduction of ‘Crow’s Feet’, the wrinkles around our eyes, and also for thinning lips. Like Botox, this treatment can be reapplied as often as needed, in complete safety.
